Tyler's hat trick leads Rivier over DWC

(Nashua, NH) Trailing by a goal entering halftime, the Rivier University Field Hockey team scored three goals in a 10 minute span to earn their first win of 2012 with a 4-2 triumph over crosstown foe Daniel Webster College.

Senior tri-captain Kristen Tyler (Thornton, NH) found the back of the net at the 45 minute, 49 minute and 55 minute marks as the Raiders took home the victory.

The scoring was started early in the first half when senior tri-captain Ashley Ruocco (East Kingston, NH) netted her first of the season at the 9 minute mark.

Daniel Webster would answer right back with two goals of their own. Junior Samantha Crooker (Gilford, NH) was able to sneak two shots by Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Flagg (Shirley, MA) at the 11 and 34 minute marks as the Eagles took a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Flagg stopped 2 of the 4 shots she faced as the Raider defense was tremendous all night long. DWC's freshman goalie Danielle Melanson (Derry, NH) took the loss as she swatted away 15 of 19 shots.

Rivier will return to action on Saturday morning as they host Elms College in a non-conference 11am matchup. Daniel Webster will enjoy a week off as they will travel to Framingham State on September 13th.
