
Baseball Faces 9-5 Setback at Dean
FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Rivier baseball team fell to Dean in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday afternoon at the Longely Athletic Complex, 9-5.
Rivier, the designated home team in today's contest, fell to 6-12 (1-4 GNAC) while the Bulldogs improved to 6-13 (3-2 GNAC).
The Raiders used a sacrifice fly from senior Kyle Hsu in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. Rivier doubled its lead in the fourth as senior Luis Tejada extended his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI single.
Dean tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth with a two RBI single off the bat of Colin Favata. The Raiders retook the lead in the bottom half of the frame as senior Jacob Boudreau crossed the plate on a throwing error as classmate Owen Medlock took second base on a steal to make it 3-2. Rivier's lead was extended back to two runs as Hsu knocked in his second run of the game with a single.
The Bulldogs went on to score seven runs over the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to hop in front, 9-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, senior Ben O'Connell pushed in one run in a Rivier comeback bid that fell short.
Boudreau went 3-for-5 at the dish, scoring three Raider runs. Hsu went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in and a walk.
Senior Nate Bonacorsi got the loss after tossing 6.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out three Bulldog batters.
Rivier is slated to return to the diamond on Saturday, April 5 for a GNAC clash at Mitchell. First pitch from Alumni Field is scheduled for noon.
