Baseball Falls to Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Rivier baseball team fell to Western New Eng. by a final score of 12-2 in seven innings on Sunday afternoon at Trelease Park in non-conference action.

The Raiders fell to 6-11 while the Golden Bears improved to 11-8.

Junior Nathan Innerfield knocked in the game's first run with a groundout before senior Luis Tejada kept his bat going with an RBI single to left center to make it 2-0 in the first inning. The Golden Bears responded with a run in the bottom half to make it a one-run game.

Western New Eng. took the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on three hits and one Rivier error, making it 5-2.

The Golden Bears kept the Raiders off the board through the remaining innings while slowly adding to their lead. In the bottom of the seventh, leading 9-2, WNE scored three runs on back-to-back hits to walk-off on the Raiders via the run rule.

Five separate Raiders recorded hits in the loss, with Tejada reaching base a team-leading three times.

Rivier will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Tuesday, April 1 for its home opener versus Dean at 3:30 p.m. at Holman Stadium.
