
Baseball Toppled by Eastern, 14-4
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Rivier baseball team fell to Eastern in a non-conference matchup by a final score of 14-4 on Friday afternoon at Socastee High School.
The Raiders fell to .500 through six contests in the Palmetto State while the Eagles improved to 5-4.
The designated road team, Eastern, scored four runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. Rivier responded with one run as senior Jacob Boudreau crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.
After a scoreless second, the Eagles hit two home runs to push three additional runs across the board to make it 7-1. Junior Nathan Innferfield added a run to the board for the Raiders in the bottom half, pushing across Boudreau with an RBI single up the middle.
Eastern added five runs over the next two innings to go up by 10 runs, 12-2. In the bottom of the sixth, senior JD Normand sent the first pitch of his at bat over the fence in right to make it a nine-run game. Later in the inning, senior Owen Medlock scored sophomore Sebastien Reis on a sacrifice fly to make it 12-4.
An RBI double in the top of the eighth proved to be the difference as Eastern went up by 10 runs and blanked Rivier in the bottom half to invoke the 10-run rule.
Sophomore lefthander Brian West came in and tossed a scoreless, one-two-three inning in the sixth.
The Raiders will round out their eight-game trip to South Carolina on Saturday, March 8 with a doubleheader against Manhattanville. First pitch times are set for noon and 3:00 p.m. from Polo Grounds at The Ripken Experience.
