Baseball Sweeps Lancaster Bible to Open Season

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Rivier baseball team started its 2025 campaign in style, sweeping a doubleheader against Lancaster Bible on the opening day of its Spring Break trip Sunday at Polo Grounds as part of The Ripken Experience.

The Raiders won game one by a final score of 11-1 before taking game two by a final score of 6-4 to begin their season with a 2-0 record for the second consecutive season. The Chargers fell to 4-4 with the pair of losses.

Rivier 11, Lancaster Bible 0 (7 inn.)

Senior Kyle Hsu launched the second pitch of his at bat over the fence in right field to homer, putting the Raiders up 1-0 early.

After walking the leadoff batter, junior righty Anthony Morro retired nine of the next 10 batters faced to keep the Chargers off the board.

In the top of the fourth, junior Nathan Innerfield hit a three-run shot to right, knocking in junior Dylan Aliberti and graduate student JD Normand to put Rivier up four.

After a walk and steal of second by sophomore Colton Colleran, junior Owen Medlock tripled to right to cap off a four-run inning for the Raiders.

After an RBI groundout from Normand in the fifth, Rivier put together a four-run seventh inning to take a commanding 11-0 advantage. Lancaster Bible got on the board on a Rivier miscue during its final at bats to avoid the shutout.

Morro went six complete innings allowing just one hit and one run with two strikeouts. Junior reliever Brendan Ferris notched a strikeout on the final batter to close out the victory.

Innerfield went 3-for-4 from the plate with four runs batted in.

Rivier stole five bases in the triumph.

Rivier 6, Lancaster Bible 4 (7 inn.)

The Chargers capitalized on a Rivier error to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the frame, Rivier scored five times to take a 5-1 advantage with junior Nathan Innerfield and senior Luis Tejada notching RBI base knocks.

Lancaster Bible scored one in the top of the third before Rivier countered in the bottom half, scoring on a wild pitch.

The final run of the contest came in the top of the fourth as an error from the Raiders infield turned into the Chargers' third and fourth runs.

Junior righty Brendan Ferris threw a scoreless fifth inning, allowing just one hit while registering a strikeout in a relief appearance.

After both teams were blanked in the fifth, Lancaster Bible threatened in the top of the sixth, loading the bases. Junior closer Ty Baker came in to record the final out of the inning before going on to record a one-two-three seventh to record his first save of the season.

Innerfield led the offense going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Tejada also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to his credit.

Lefty senior starter Nate Bonacorsi earned the victory, going four innings on the bump, allowing five hits, four runs (one earned), and two walks while fanning two Charger batters.
