Rivier Alumni are victorious again, now 2-0 in Alumni Games

(Nashua, NH) In the second annual Rivier Baseball Alumni Game, it was the Alumni who came out victorious by an 11-1 score. The game was played on campus at Raider Field in over 60 friends and family attended the event.

Shaun Hanson '10 earned the win on the mound as he tossed seven innings allowing just two hits, striking out seven. Hanson also hit three batters. Chris Hunt '10 pitched the final two innings surrendering the lone run on three hits.

Joe Gargan '08 went 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored earning MVP honors. Last year's MVP Bobby Gibbons '07 reached base three times and scored twice as the leadoff hitter. Scott Fournier '07 also had a two hit performance with a RBI and John Nicoloro '08 hit a ringing double and scored.

As for the current team, the Raiders used nine different pitchers over the course of the game with freshmen Nick Pica (Derry, NH) and Eddie Soucie (South Ryegate, VT) throwing perfect innings. Sophomore transfer Jesse Turcotte (Tyngsboro, MA) took the loss as he allowed two runs in his only inning of work. Sophomore John Basutro (Newark, NJ) plated the only run as his RBI single to center scored freshman Matt Keefe (Haverhill, MA) in the eighth inning.

This event marks the end of the Fall Season for Rivier baseball. The team will begin their 2013 season sometime in late January/early February before they head south to Florida to begin the season.
