Nighthawks top Raiders 9-2 in Patriots Day contest

(Brockton, MA) Despite the tragic events that took place inside the City of Boston, the Rivier University Raiders and Newbury College Nighthawks squared off for a Patriots Day non-conference contest inside of Brockton's Campenelli Stadium. The Nighthawks would eventually win the game 9-2 but the thoughts and prayers of both teams were with the victims and their families of the bombings.

Sophomore Jesse Turcotte (Tyngsboro, MA) took the loss for Rivier after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 16 hits over 6.2 innings. The trio of sophomores Lucas Palma (Bristol, CT), Bryar King (Berlin, NH) and freshman Matt Keefe (Bradford, MA) finished the final 1.1 innings without allowing a run.

Freshman David Feole (Scituate, RI) went 1-for-4 with a RBI to lead the offensive attack for the Raiders. Senior John DiBenedetto (Tampa, FL) also added a RBI sacrifice fly to account for the two runs that Rivier scored. Freshmen Jeremy Ball (Swanzey, NH), Micheal Janerico (Waquoit, MA) and Taylor Black (West Springfield, MA) also added single hits for the Raiders.

Rivier will return to action tomorrow evening when they host Fisher College inside of Historic Holman Stadium. Junior Gabe May (Portsmouth, NH) will throw his first pitch of the game at 7:05pm.
