Raiders offense silenced by Fisher, lose 2-0

(Malden, MA) The Rivier University Baseball team dropped a tough 2-0 decision to NAIA powerhouse Fisher College this evening, under the lights at Malden's Maplewood Park.

Freshman Jon Chotkowski (Tewksbury, MA) continues to dominate as the lefty struck out seven Falcons over seven innings while allowing two unearned runs.

The Raider offense was silent for the third game in a row as they managed just three hits throughout the game. Senior Kyle Bowser (Newington, NH) collected one of those hits as he went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base. Sophomore Michael Scanlon (Plantsville, CT) also went 1-for-2 with a walk and freshman Austin Biery (Raymond, NH) was 1-for-3.

Fisher plated their runs with single tallies in the third and fourth. Dominic Zaher reached on an error and came around to score when Eridani Dume laced a two out single to left in the third inning. The Falcons' second run came the following inning when Anthony Peguero reached on a single and advanced to third on an outfield miscue. Yuliano Rodriguez then lifted a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Peguero to score.

Fisher's starting pitcher Pedro Escarfullery earned the win after he fanned 12 Raiders and allowed three hits in his five innings of work. A quartet of relievers each threw scoreless innings to preserve the shutout and the team's 12th win of 2013.

Rivier, now 1-11 overall, will play Plymouth State University on Thursday morning, 11am, in Watertown, Massachusetts in their next scheduled contest.
