Women’s Volleyball Splits with Gordon and Amherst

AMHERST, MA: The Rivier women's volleyball team split the day against two non-conference opponents. The Raiders took down Gordon in three sets and fell to Amherst in four.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/24/22 

- Score: Rivier 3, Gordon 0. Sets (27-25, 25-18, 25-20). Amherst 3, Rivier 1. Sets (16-25, 25-22, 22-25, 19-25)

- Records: Rivier (8-3), Gordon (4-8), Amherst (6-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED: MATCH ONE

-  After a slow start, the Raiders kicked it into high gear in sets two and three. Riv finished with a .467 kill percentage in set two and a .333 in set three. Lily Sills (Carlisle, MA) led the way for the Raiders offense picking up a solid 12 kills. Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, NY) racked up another 30 assists while adding four kills and a team-high eight digs.

- Gordon struggled on offense ending the match with a .081 kill percentage. Annie Murphy was the only high point in their offense as she finished with 11 kills. Kate Howe tallied 21 assists of the total 24.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Kills: Rivier 39, Gordon 27 

-  Assists: Rivier 35, Gordon 24

-  Digs: Rivier 48, Gordon 45

HOW IT HAPPENED: MATCH TWO

- The Raiders showed a lot of fight in their match with Amherst. After numerous rallies that last over 20 seconds each, Riv found themselves coming back to take the second set and even make the third set very close after being down 20-12. Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, CT) had much to do with the Raiders successes after dropping 17 kills and a match-high 23 digs. Pollard left the gym tonight with a solid 61 assists combined between the two matches. She racked up 31 in this match alone and a season-high seven kills.

- Amherst has two arms swinging well tonight; both Kaili Maurice and Alexandra Trofort had double-digit kills. Maurice had a team-high 13, while Trofort had 12. Carly Cooper had 30 assists with a team-high 21 digs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Kills: Amherst 44, Rivier 42

- Assists: Amherst 39, Rivier 34

- Digs: Amherst 102, Rivier 98

- Rivier volleyball will be back in action Wednesday in the Muldoon when they start conference play against Colby-Sawyer at 7 pm.
