Women's Lacrosse Starts Second Season With High Hopes
The Rivier Women's' Lacrosse Program is excited about beginning their second season! With a full schedule, new players, and a solid group of returner's, new head coach Kathryn Gaudreau looks forward to the beginning of competition.
The Raiders will be led this year by co-captains Natalie Bonvie (Salem, NH), and Caitlin Gallagher (Billerica, MA). Both return to the program from last year's inaugural season and a year of experience will go a long way with this young squad. Bonvie on the attack and Gallagher as a defenseman will bring leadership and talent to these areas of play. Both were named to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team last season and will strive to break onto the first team this year.
In the midfield the Raiders have returning starter Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME) who had a great freshman year leading the team in goals scored (42) and assists (8) as a freshman. She is a skilled player with a lot to bring to the team and they will look to her for the same production this season.
In the goal the Raiders are fortunate enough to have Caleigh Bertolaccini (Chelmsford, MA). The sophomore goaltender has been working hard and has come to the 2011 season ready to take the helm as the starting goalie.
Ashley Gray (Medford, MA), Georgia Steese (Wilmot, NH), Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, NH) and Lindsay Martin (Hartford, VT) round out the returners. Steese, Renaud and Martin spent most of last season in the starting line-up while Gray came off the bench. Renaud scored 13 goals with 2 assists to lead the group and all four will expect to contribute even more this season.
As for new players, Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA), Hannah Wyatt (Merrimack, NH), Vanessa Viola (Nashua, NH), Morgan Greene (Acworth, NH), Christina Parent (Loudon, NH), Amanda Atwell (Raymond, NH), Kiera Garvey (Chelmsford, MA), and Olivia Perrone (Abington, MA) join the group of talented returners. Wickens, Parent and Greene all played on the Rivier women's soccer team in the fall and bring some much needed speed to the field. All of the new players have played lacrosse in high school and will bring some great experience and motivation to the team.
"This is just the beginning of an exciting season and time for the Raiders Women's Lacrosse program." says Coach Gaudreau. "I expect that with the talent we have on this team we will be fighting for a spot in the playoffs immediately."
