Rivier College Wins Second Straight, 22-8

Nashua, NH – Three different Rivier players scored 4 times each in a 22-8 rout of Becker College today in women's lacrosse action. Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA), Natalie Bonvie (Salem, NH) and Amanda Atwell (Raymond, NH) each score 4 goals with Bonvie also assisting on one other and Atwell picking up 2 helpers in the Victory. The win improves Rivier to 2-0 on the young season while Becker falls to 1-2.

The Raiders went up immediately as Wickens scored the first goal just 12 seconds into the game with an assist from freshman Jessica Amaral (E. Providence, RI). The Raiders would tack on another 10 minutes later to go up 2-0 before Becker could get on the board. Nakita Gosselin (Springfield, VT) recorded the first goal for the Hawks on an assist from Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, VT), but Rivier answered right back with a free position goal from Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME). Amanda Corso (West Haven, CT) went unassisted to bring the visitors back within one goal, but the Raiders scored 4 straight to go up 6-2 and tacked on 7 more goals in the first half to take a 13-5 lead into halftime.

Rivier kept the pressure on in the second half, scoring the first 3 goals to go up 16-5 before Hazen and Shannon Smith (Barre, VT) could score back to back goals for Becker to make the score 16-7. Again Rivier scored 4 unanswered goals, capped off by Atwell's fourth of the game on a pass from Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, NH) to give Rivier a 20-7 advantage. Ashley Mossey (Ballston Lake, NY) scored the final goal for the Hawks with Hazen getting the assist and Amaral and Vanessa Viola (Nashua, NH) capped off the scoring for the Raiders, giving them the 22-8 win.

Along with Wickens, Bonvie and Atwell, who each scored four times for the Raiders, Brett chipped in with 3 goals and Amaral and Renaud each score twice. Amaral also added two assists for the home team. Goal keeper Caleigh Bertolaccini (Chelmsford, MA) recorded the win, her second in two tries, recording 6 saves and allowing 8 goals.

Morgan Hazen and Ashley Mossey led the Becker attack with two goal each and 4 other players recorded 1 goal. Hazen and Shannon Smith each had 2 assists in the setback for the Hawks. Alena Phongsa (Putnam, CT) took the loss in goal giving up 22 goals and recording 18 saves as she was peppered with shots in the net all day.

The Raiders will next take on Fitchburg State on Tuesday, March 22 at 4:00 PM in Nashua, NH. The Hawks, meanwhile, will host St. Joseph College of Connecticut on Wednesday, March 23rd at 4:00 PM.
