Fitchburg State Dominates Second Half To Beat Rivier, 19-10

Nashua, NH – The Fitchburg State Falcons outscored the Rivier College Raiders 9-2 in the second half of today's non-conference women's lacrosse game to win the road game 19-10. Kelly Finamore scored 7 goals for the Falcons and Amanda Burns added 6 goals and a team high 6 assists in the victory.

Fitchburg went up a quick 2-0 in under two minutes of play on Finamore's and Burns' first goals of the game. Rivier bounced right back with a Natalie Bonvie (Salem, NH) goal and a Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA) score to tie the game at 2-2. The score tied again at 3-3 and 4-4 before the falcons scored five unanswered goals to go up 9-4 with just six minutes to play in the half. Rivier came storming back, however, and scored 4 of the next 5 goals to make the score 10-8 at halftime in favor of the visiting Falcons.

The Falcons really turned up the defense in the second half and allowed just seven Rivier shots during the entire period of play. Fitchburg scored seven unanswered goals to start the second half and built a 17-8 lead with under eight minutes to play. The two teams traded goals over the remaining time to end with Fitchburg winning the game 19-10.

Wickens led the Raiders with 6 goals and Hannah Wyatt (Merrimack, NH) had a team high 2 assists along with a single goal. Along with Finamore and Burns, Samantha Bonaser had a multiple goal game, netting 3 goals for the Falcons.

Caleigh Bertolaccini (Chelmsford, MA) took the loss in goal for the raiders, allowing 19 goals while making 5 saves. Dylana Drolette picked up the win, allowing 10 goals and recording 4 saves.

Rivier will host Mount Ida College on Saturday at 1:00 pm for their final regular season game.
