Rivier's Women's Lacrosse Season Ends In Playoffs

BOSTON, Mass. - Emily Saeger '12 (Center Valley, Pa.) made 18 saves, and Chelsea Phillips '14 (Waterford, Conn.) socred seven goals and added an assist to lead third-seeded Emerson College to a 18-9 victory over sixth seeded Rivier college in the first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.

The Lions wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Phillips scored just 19 seconds into the game. Phillips had two more goals and Mary Stufano '14 (Sanibel, Fla.) added two more before Rivier got on the board on a free position shot by Rebecca Wiggins '14 (Tyngsboro, Mass.) with 20:23 remaining.

Emerson and the Raiders traded the next seven goals until a buzzer beating goal by Laura Miley '11 (Cranston, R.I.) gave the Lions a 10-4 halftime lead.

Rivier opened the second half on Wickens' second goal of the game, and Hannah Wyatt '14 (Merrimack,N.H.) followed that with an unassisted tally of her own to pull the Raiders to within 10-6. Two Katie Dodge '11 (West Newbury, Mass.) tallies sandwiched around another Phillips marker gave the Lions an insurmountable 13-6 advantage.

Phillips added an assist to go with her seven goals, while Dodge had four goals and an assist. Stufano had four points including three goals, and Miley had two goals and an assist. Wickens led the Raiders with four goals and Wyatt had a pair.

With the win, Emerson (7-8) advances to play second seeded Lasell College on Friday at 4:00pm in Newton, Mass. Rivier finishes its season at 9-7.
