Women's Basketball: Kacavas sets program record with 43 points in win over Lesley

(Medford, Mass.) Senior Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) had a program setting night as the Rivier University Women's Basketball team earned their first win of the season with a 78-57 win over Lesley University in non-conference action on Thursday night.

The Raiders (1-6 overall) used an 18-4 run in the second quarter as they defeated the Lynx (0-6) in the first matchup between the two programs since January 5, 2014. Rivier now holds an 8-3 advantage in the all-time head-to-head records.

Speaking of records, Kacavas was nothing short than impressive as she set the program game-high record of 43 points. The veteran guard shot 16-for-23 from the floor, including three three-point baskets, while recording a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe to set the record. Kacavas' previous game-high was 33 points a year ago.

Junior Elizabeth Meehan (Nashua, N.H.) also reached double-figures as she finished with 10 points and eight rebounds along with senior Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) who also pulled down the team-high of eight rebounds.

Lesley was paced by Dakota Jones, who registered the games only double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Theresa Pereira also finished the night with 17 points for the Lynx and Sarah Tobin collected nine rebounds along with six points.

Rivier will remain on the road for their next non-conference this Saturday afternoon against Mahattanville College in New York. Game time is set for 4pm. Lesley will also return to action on Saturday as they host Dean College in a NECC contest beginning at 12pm.
