Women's Basketball: Lessard named GNAC Rookie of the Week

(Winthrop, Mass.) It was announced earlier this afternoon by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference that Rivier University freshman Cydney Lessard (Auburn, N.H.) was selected as the conference's Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week!

Lessard has been off to a hot start for the Raiders and in the team's only game of the week, the Pinkerton Academy grad scored 15 points and collected three rebounds in 17 minutes of action against Fisher College back on Tuesday, November 20th. Lessard shot 4-of-9 from the field and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line on her way to her second double-digit scoring effort of the season off the bench.

She becomes the first Raider to receive GNAC Rookie of the Week honors since Deanna Purcell '15 was tabbed ROTW on February 7, 2012. This is also the first GNAC Weekly honor to be awarded to a Rivier Women's Basketball student-athlete since Savanna Butterfield '16 was named the conference's Player of the Week on December 5, 2016.

Lessard and the rest of the Women's Basketball team will return to action this week as they have a pair of non-conference road games at Lesley University (Thu. 11/29 @ 8pm) and Manhattanville College (Sat. 12/1 @ 4pm).
