Women's Basketball: Kacavas named to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Team

Story written and posted by Anthony Perry, Rivier University Sports Information Director

(Nashua, N.H.) It was announced earlier today that Rivier University senior Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) was selected to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region team. This is the first time in her storied career in Raider blue that Kacavas has been named to the team. She also becomes the first Women's Basketball student-athlete to be selected to the All-Region team since Deanna Purcell '15 was honored after her senior season in 2015.

There were over 716 student-athletes nominated nationwide across the eight regions. The Northeast Region is made up of four teams (21 student-athletes) due to the amount of NCAA Division III schools that offer Women's Basketball.

Kacavas finished the season leading all of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball in scoring per game with a 27.3 average. She reached double-figures in each of the 23 games she played in while shooting 46.4% (198-for-427) from the floor and draining 198 of 250 free throw attempts. Kacavas also recorded and set the program high for points in a game when she scored 43 points in the team's win at Lesley University and on senior day at the Muldoon, she netted 42 points to finish with 628 points on the season.

Kacavas is one of four other Great Northeast Athletic Conference student-athletes to be selected. Kelsie McNamara of Saint Joseph's College (Me.) earned first-team honors while Yuleska Ramirez-Tejada of Emmanuel College was placed on the second team. Joining Kacavas on the region's fourth team was Jenni-Rose DiCecco of Suffolk University.

Student-Athletes chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The women's All-America team will be announced at the Division III women's championships.

This is the 18th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 22nd annual All-American selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
