Men's Volleyball: Raiders drop the Lions in a 3-0 sweep.
Story written and posed by Hayden Barbosa, Rivier University Assistant Sports Information Director
(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Raiders are off to a strong start after sweeping Eastern Nazarene on the road in a 3-0 sweep.
It was a combination between the veteran setter Pedro Campos (Downey, Cali) and sophomore outside hitter Sokunbuth Ly (Lowell, Ma) that earned the Raiders the first point of season. While the point was a response to the Lions early two-point lead, the Raiders quickly pulled away with five and 10 unanswered scoring sprees.
Campos went on to facilitate a total of 20 assists for the match. One of which lead to sophomore Quinn Foglia's (Remsenberg, NY) first collegiate career kill.
Foglia closed out the match with a respectable four kills on six attempts hitting at .500. While David Smith (Clinton, OH)l ead the Raiders attack with eight kills on ten attempts hitting at .700, while dropping seven service aces on the Lions. Ly recorded six kills and three aces while junior middle hitter Ernesto Montes (Huntington Park, Cali.) chipped in with three kills on all three attempt while Eric Roderick (Salem, N.H.) notched two kills and 4 assissts.
The Raiders defensive performance was solid evidence of hard-work off the ball. The team collectively recorded 25 digs and 5 blocks in their first showing.
Certainly a strong start for the Raiders as the Lions never came closer than a 14-point difference in each of the three frames.
