Rookie of the Week Honors Continue for Rivier

Nashua, NH – Rivier College is home to two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie's of the Week this week as both Tom Poitras (Bow, NH-left) of the men's basketball team and Aaron Almario (Alhambra, CA-right) of the men's volleyball team were both awarded the honor in their respective sports.

Poitras, a 6'5 freshman forward on the basketball team, averaged 15.5 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game as he took over as the only big man in the starting line-up for the Raiders after an ankle injury to big brother Don. Tom was magnificent in the final two regular season games of the season as he led the Raiders in points and rebounds in both Games and helped Rivier to secure the 6 seed in the GNAC playoffs. Against Lasell College in the final game of the regular season Poitras scored 20 points and secured 13 rebounds for his 11th double digit point game and 2nd double-double of the season. The Raiders fell to Albertus Magnus College in the first round of the GNAC playoffs where Poitras scored 17 points and grabbed a team high 9 rebounds.

This is also Almario's third Rookie of the Week honor, including his second in a row. Aaron, a 6'7 middle hitter, played in 5 matches and registered a team high 20 blocks for a 1.18 blocks per set average. His offense was also a huge factor as he hit for a .421 percentage with 32 kills and only 8 hitting errors. Aaron's best offensive game came against GNAC opponent Emerson College where he smashed down 9 kills with just 2 errors for a .467 hitting percentage. In three conference matches during the week Aaron registered a total of 19 kills and 10 blocks along with 1 service ace and 2 digs. The 5-0 week for the Raiders improved their record to 18-5 overall and 6-0 in GNAC play.
