Three New Hampshire Natives Join GNAC All-Conference Teams

Nashua, NH – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced their men's and women's all-conference teams this week and three Rivier students, all New Hampshire residence, were on the list.

The list is headlined by Rivier's senior center and co-captain of the men's basketball team Don Poitras (Bow, NH) who was named to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team for the third straight season. Poitras helped the Raiders to a 12-11 overall record and the 6th seed in the GNAC playoffs before being sidelined by an ankle injury that forced him to miss the final two regular season games and the team's playoff game against Albertus Magnus College. Prior to the injury Don led the team with 14.7 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game. He notched both his 1000th point and 500th rebound of his career during the season and became the conference leader in career blocked shots. His tenacity on the defensive end of the floor also earned him the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year Award, finishing with a total of 179 rebounds and 66 blocked shots during the 2010-11 season.

Mike Polley and Steph Adams, both from Nashua, NH, were each named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team by their peers. Adams, a senior forward and co-captain on the women's basketball team at Rivier, averaged 7.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. She started and playing in 24 of 25 games for the rebuilding Raiders this season and narrowly missed the playoffs by one game as the team finished 7-18 and in 9th place in the GNAC standings. Polley, a sophomore forward for the men's team, was a great role player for the Raiders who came off the bench in 24 of 26 games this season and averaged 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. Filling in for the injured Poitras in the team's playoff game, Polley showed what the future holds for the Raiders as he exploded for 18 points and 5 rebounds in 30 minutes of play. The 6'5 forward led the Raiders offense on the day, shooting 8-14 from the floor and 2-2 from the free throw line.
