Rivier College Men Win Colby Invitational, 56-41

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's (4-3, 0-0 NESCAC) Mike Russell (Wellesley, Mass.) and Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, Maine) both made the all-tournament team, but Rivier College's (4-1, 0-0 GNAC) Nick Bean (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) went 6-for-12 from 3-point range and finished with 22 points and seven rebounds in a 56-41 win over the Mules in the title game of the Colby College Men's Basketball Invitational on Sunday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Bean, an all-tournament selection, had 15 points in the first half as Rivier (4-1) led 35-22 at intermission. Tournament MVP Don Poitras (Bow, N.H.), who had 26 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Framingham State on Saturday, added eight points, eight rebounds, four steals, three blocks, and two assists.

Rivier held Colby to just 23 percent shooting in the second half and 31 percent for the game. Shawn Gareau (Hardwick, Mass.) added a game-high six assists for the winners, while Joe Granato (Arlington, Mass.) had 11 points and was 3-for-5 from 3-point range.

Rivier will open GNAC play next Saturday at Johnson & Wales University, game time is set for 1:00 PM.
