Rivier Defeats Visiting Daniel Webster 16 - 11

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team laid claim to bragging rights in Nashua, winning the Gate City rivalry with cross town foe Daniel Webster College 16 – 11 tonight at home.  With the win, Rivier moves to 4 – 2 on the season while the loss drops DWC to 4 – 3 in 2016.  The Raiders used a strong opening quarter, leading 6 – 3 after one, and bookended it with a 6 – 1 run in the fourth quarter to sew up the victory.

The visiting Eagles were up 2 – 1 just over 7 minutes into the opening frame paced by a pair of goals from Tre Mason (FR, Kelowna, BC) that answered the game's opening tally from Colby Larsen (FR, Windham, NH).  Rivier stormed back, powering five straight strikes by Tyler Tambouris (SO, Hooksett, NH), Kyle Graham (SR, Londonderry, NH), Larsen, Liam Ryan (FR, Dorchester, MA), and Harley Kearney (SO, Pelham,NH) to take over the game with a 6 – 2 lead.  Mason added another goal to close out the quarter for the visitors.

Rivier worked to stay on top in the third and fourth quarter, but Daniel Webster was persistent, eventually knotting the score at 10 goals apiece entering the fourth quarter.  Larsen led the Raiders' attack in the fourth quarter, adding three more goals to total 6 on the day, while Joe Kelland (SO, Watertown, MA), Graham, and Tambouris added one each and the Raiders six goal run was too much for Daniel Webster to handle, as the visitors only tallied a lone goal from Domanic Darenzo (FR, Schuylerville, NY).

Clark Plummer (SR, Londonderry, NH) made 19 saves in net for the Raiders to backstop the victory.  For the Eagles, Harley Hagan (FR, Red Lion, PA) recorded 5 saves.

With the win, Rivier moves to 4 – 2 on the season while the loss drops Daniel Webster to 4 – 3 in 2016.  Next up for the Raiders is a visit from Mitchell College, March 26th, at 1:00 pm on Raider Field.  Daniel Webster returns to action March 29th, when they host Nichols at 4:00 pm.
