Women’s Lacrosse Surpasses Lasers

NASHUA, NH: Rivier women's lacrosse took down the Lasers of Lasell University this evening in GNAC action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/19/23

- Score: Rivier 12, Lasell 8

- Records: Rivier (4-8, 3-8 GNAC), Lasell (2-12, 2-9 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders would score the first four goals of the contest. Two coming in the first quarter by Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, MA). Caitlin Newell (Litchfield, NH) would find the back of the net to start the second quarter, followed by a third Lachance goal.

- The Lasers would storm back to within in one, with three straight goals. Emily Chapdelaine, Kaitlin Bedell, and Sam Jones all scored to make the game 3-4 in the Raiders favor. Ashley Wilder (Milford, NH) would end the Lasell run with 2:44 left in the half. Lachance would net a fourth goal to bring the score to 6-3 at the break.

- The second half started with the Raiders and Lasers going back and forth, starting with Lachance's fifth goal of the game. Bedell would answer back later in the third, followed by another Riv score by Wilder. The Lasers would have a new name show up in the stats, with Teresa Kessner keeping the Lasell within three. Cassie Hemmerdinger (Pelham, NH) would tack on another goal to extend the lead to 9-5. Lachance would add another to close out the third quarter with her sixth and final goal.

- The fourth quarter started with two quick goals by the Lasers Chapdelaine and Bedell. Hemmerdinger would net her second to end the brief run making the score 11-7. Chapdelaine would beat the Raider keeper one more time to score their eighth and final goal. Hemmerdinger would add one more Riv goal for insurance to close out the game.

- Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, MA) would have a great game in net, saving 20 of the 28 shots that she faced. With the win, she improves to 3-6 on the season. Joy Sayah fell to 2-12 after letting in 12 goals with ten saves on 22 shots faced.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Lasell 38, Rivier 27

-  Ground balls: Rivier 33, Lasell 30

-  Turnovers: Rivier 20, Lasell 20

- Rivier women's lacrosse will be back on the field this Saturday when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a 3:30 pm start.
