Chargers Rush by Women’s Lacrosse

NASHUA, NH: Rivier women's lacrosse lost to Colby-Sawyer College this evening in conference play on Joanne Merrill Field.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/12/23

- Score: Colby-Sawyer 16, Rivier 2

- Records: Rivier (3-7, 2-7 GNAC), Colby-Sawyer (9-4, 7-2 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Chargers put up two quick goals in the first quarter credited to Sydney Stevens and Sophia Kuhlthau on free position shots. Raiders' Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, MA) battled through the Colby-Sawyer defenders to fire in a goal. Stevens netted her second goal of the game at 4:57 in the first quarter.

- It was a silent second quarter for Rivier. The Chargers recorded five goals credited to Kuhlthau on a player up opportunity and free position shot, Hannah Marquis unassisted, Heather Hanson unassisted, Olivia Romo on a free position shot, and Ella Lyford on the player up advantage and free position shot.

- The Raiders were unable to score in the third quarter, while Colby-Sawyer gained another five goals. Cecilia Ponzini got the scoring started in the third, followed by Stevens with an assist from Marquis, Romo unassisted, and Hanson with the final two for the Chargers.

- In the fourth quarter the Chargers recorded three goals in a row. Romo managed to collect a player down goal on a free position shot at 14:31 for Colby-Sawyer. A few minutes later Stevens passed to Romo who sent in her second goal of the quarter for the Chargers. Marquis of Colby-Sawyer scored their final goal of the game. Chiara Skeels (Swanton, VT) of Rivier snuck in an unassisted goal with 36 seconds left on the clock.

- Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, MA) of Rivier saved 14 shots tonight. AJ Paton of Colby-Sawyer had three saves and was tagged with the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Shots: Colby-Sawyer 38, Rivier 12

- Ground Balls: Colby-Sawyer 37, Rivier 27

- Penalties: Rivier received five yellow cards, Colby-Sawyer received two yellow cards and one green card
