Women's Lacrosse fall to Regis on Senior Day

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team fell this afternoon against the visiting Regis College Pride by the score of 13-9 at Raider Field. With the loss, the Raiders close out their 2015 campaign with a 4-12 season record. As for the Pride, the win improves their season record to 8-5.

Although it was senior day at Raider Field, the Pride of Regis College spoiled the festivities with a victory over the Raiders. The game began with Regis scoring the first 3 goals. Rivier was able to get themselves on the board when Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was able to score off of a free-position shot at the 21:55 mark. Another goal by Regis gave the Pride a 4-1 lead. Jane Farell (Wilmington, Mass.) was able to trim the Pride lead to just two goals when she was able to score off of a free-position shot at the 11:50 mark.

Regis would tack on an additional two goals, one at the 8:48 mark, and the other at the 1:55 mark. Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) gave the Raiders their third goal of the game when she scored off of the Raiders third free-position shot attempt of the day. Rivier trailed 6-3 at halftime.

The Raiders began the second half by scoring two consecutive goals. Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) was able to score an impressive goal at the 28:59 mark. Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was able to score again for the Raiders less than two minutes later. Rivier trimmed the Pride lead to just one goal. Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) was able to score again for the Raiders at the 22:25 mark. Unfortunately, the Pride would strike back with three consecutive goals of their own. The Raiders attempted to complete the comeback late into the half, but ultimately it was not enough, as the Pride were able to hold off the Raider attack.

Rivier had great performances turned in by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who was able to lead the Raiders were 3 goals and 1 assist. Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) was able to score 2 goals and 1 assist. Paxton Larocque (Londonderry, N.H.), Jane Farell (Wilmington, Mass.), and Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) were each able to record 1 goal and 1 assist for the Raiders.

 

And now, a special tribute to our Rivier Women's Lacrosse Seniors!

 

Veronica Jones is a first year Attack for the Raiders.  A Biology Major from West Chesterfield, NH, this year Veronica has helped this program grow.  Playing in 14 games, and getting the start in 13 of them Veronica has had 6 goals, and 2 assists.  Furthermore she has compiled 20 ground balls, 2 draw controls, and 1 caused turnover.  She has been a strong attack man and player for the Raiders.  Wearing #15 Veronica has improved in every game that she has played in.

Makenzie Flagg is a four year Goalie for the Raiders.  A Criminal Justice Major from Shirley, Ma. Makenzie is an energetic goalie playing in 17 games of her collegiate career.  A total of 64 career saves. When she steps on the field, Makenzie is a true competitor.  Makenzie's work in the goal is unyielding.  Wearing #00, Flagg has been a true team player stepping up big when it counted!

Aimee Ruetzel is a first year Defenseman for the Raiders. A Biology Education major from Washington, CT.  In her career, Aimee has played in 11 games and started in 2. Aimee has 2 groundballs and 1 caused turnover.  Her value and contributions on the field have been far exceeded by what she has done off of the field. Wearing # 24, Aimee is an extremely hard working and dedicated player who is a true student athlete.

Angelina Nhem, is a starting Defenseman for the Raiders.  She is a Finance Major from Lowell, MA and has played lacrosse at Rivier for the past 4 years.  During her time in blue and white, she has been an important member of this program, Angelina played in 39 games, starting in 31 of them.  She has accumulated 46 Groundballs, 11 draw controls, 6 caused turnovers, and 2 goals. Angelina has great understanding of how to intercept and knockdown passes and goals.  Wearing #5 for four years, Angelina has been relentless on defense with the ability to come up big when it counts.

Savannah Neuwirt, is a four year starter in the Midfield for the Raiders. A Nursing Major from Newbury, NH and a captain for the 2015 season.  Savannah has been an amazing impact player while dressed in the Blue and White for the Raiders.  Playing in all 59 games of her career and starting in 57 of them. Savannah has complied 55 goals, 60 assists, 161 ground balls, 92 draw controls and 20 caused turn overs.  Over the past four years Savannah has left her mark on the program, always playing with heart and hustle, never taking a play off. Wearing #2 for four years, Savannah has been an intricate part of the development of the program here at Rivier!
