Women's Lacrosse downed by Lasell College, 15-5

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team fell this afternoon against the visiting Lasell College Lasers by the score of 15-5 in a GNAC conference matchup. With the loss, the Raiders drop to 0-4 (0-1 GNAC). With the win, the Lasers improve their record to 2-2 (1-0 GNAC).

This was a very tough game for the Raiders. Cold winds mixed with cold rain made for some difficult play. Lasell began the game on an impressive 7-0 run. Taylor Yandow (Moretown, V.T.) recorded 3 goals during the stretch while teammate Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) recorded an additional 2 goals.

Rivier finally got on the scoreboard when Catherine Connolly (Nashua, N.H.) scored a nice goal set up by Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) at the 16:34 mark. Unfortunately for the Raiders, Lasell would answer right back with a 5-0 run. 2 goals from Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) and another goal by Taylor Yandow (Moretown, V.T.) gave the Lasers a 12-1 advantage heading into halftime.

Lasell continued its hot play immediately into the second half. Less than three minutes in, Taylor Yandow (Moretown, V.T.) found the back of the net again for the Lasers. At this point, the Raiders found themselves down 13-1. In order for the game to remain competitive, they needed to string together some good offensive possessions and force the Lasers into bad decisions. Two free position shot goals by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) but the Laser lead to 10. Unfortunately, Lasell would end up putting in an additional 2 goals to make the lead too much for the Raiders.

Despite the loss, the Raiders had good performances turned in by a few of their players. Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) led the Raiders with an impressive 3 goal game. Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) was able to recorded 2 key assists while teammates Catherine Connolly (Nashua, N.H.) and Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) were each able to add a goal each for Rivier.

The Lasers had good performances turned in by Taylor Yandow (Moretown, V.T.) who was able to lead the Lasers with an impressive 4 goal 3 assist game. Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) scored an additional 4 goals for the Lasers while teammates Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) scored 3 goals and tallied 1 assist and Danielle Chambrelli (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded 3 assists on the afternoon.

In their next contest, the Rivier Women's Lacrosse team will host the Norwich University Cadets on March 18th at 7:00pm in a GNAC matchup. As for the Lasers, they will play host to a GNAC showdown as they host the Simmonds College Sharks on March 18th at 4:00pm.
