Women's Lacrosse cruises to 19-5 win over Albertus Magnus

(New Haven, Conn.) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team defeated the Albertus Magnus College Falcons on the road this evening 19-5. With the win, the Raiders notch their first GNAC win of the season. The Raiders improve their record to 1-4 (1-1 GNAC). With the loss, the Falcons drop to 1-5 (0-3 GNAC).
It was all Rivier in this lop-sided victory. The game began with a Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) goal set up by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.). The Raiders were able to score in under 30 seconds. Less than a minute later, Catherine Connolly (Nashua, N.H.) put in an unassisted goal to push the Raider lead to 2-0. This would be the start of an impressive 6-0 run which saw six different Raiders record a goal. Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) would end the Rivier run with a goal at the 21:57 mark. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Raiders, with intense pressure, would score a man-up goal only 16 seconds later. Another Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) goal at the 17:50 mark would push the Raider lead to 8-2.
Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) scored another unassisted goal for the Falcons at the 17:11 mark. Unfortunately for the Falcons, this would not be enough to threaten the Raider lead. Two goals from Jane Farell (Wilmington, Mass.), two goals from Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) and a goal from Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) and Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) would cap a 7-1 run by the Raiders to round out the first half. The Raiders lead 15-3 heading into the break.
The second half wasn't as high scoring as the first. With the win in hand, the Raiders primarily focused on moving the ball around and killing the clock. Catherine Connolly (Nashua, N.H.), Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.), and Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) each had second half goals to lead the Raiders to the dominant victory 19-5.
The Raiders had plenty of good performances turned in during this game. Amanda Wickens (Tygnsboro, Mass.) lead the Raiders with 4 goals and 3 assists. Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) was able to record 3 goals and 1 assist. Five Raiders were able to record 2 goal each in this one. Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) had 2 goals and 1 assist, Paxton Larocque recorded 2 goals and 1 assist, Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) added an additional 2 goals and 1 assist while teammates Jane Farell (Wilmington, Mass.) and Catherine Connolly (Nashua, N.H.) were each able to add 2 goals to the Raider tally.
Albertus Magnus had good performances turned in by Ashley Guerrera (Watertown, Conn.) who was able to record 2 goals on the day for the Falcons. Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) also was able to add an additional 2 goals for Albertus while teammate Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) was able to score the final goal for the Falcons.
In their next contest, the Rivier Women's Lacrosse team will host the Fitchburg State Falcons on March 22nd at 5:00pm. This is a non-conference matchup for the Raiders. As for the Falcons, they will next play at home versus Elms College. This game is scheduled for March 23rd at 4:00pm.
