
Women's Lacrosse falls at home to Simmons
(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Women's lacrosse team fell at home this evening to the visiting Simmons College Sharks by the score of 20-10. With the loss, the Raiders drop to 3-7 (2-3 GNAC). As for the Sharks, they improve their record to 4-5 (2-2 GNAC).
The game began quickly as Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) was able to put the Sharks on top in only 34 seconds on a break-away goal. The Raiders were quick to answer when Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) off of a great pass from Jane Farell (Wilmington, Mass.) was able to tie the game on an impressive man-up strike. The Raiders, after a lot of hard work on defense, were finally able to cash in on offense and take the lead when Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) was able to score at the 13:53 mark. Unfortunately for Rivier, Simmonds would fire back immediately and relentlessly en route to an 8-0 run to close out the first half.
Rivier began the second half by scoring the first two goals. One by Jane Farell (Wilmington, Mass.) and another by Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) This cut the Shark lead to only 4 goals. Simmons, with some excellent ball movement and communication, were able to string together an impressive 5 goal run to push the Shark lead back to 9. Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) was able to end the Simmons run with a nice goal assisted by Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) Unfortunately for Rivier, the Sharks would go on to outscore the Raiders 4-2 to finish out the game, and to seal the victory 20-10.
Rivier had good performances turned in by Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) who was able to record 3 key goals for the Raiders. Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) added an additional 3 goals and 1 assist while teammates Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.), and Jane Farell (Wilmington, Mass.) were each able to add a goal each for the Raider tally. Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) was able to net 2 goals for the Raiders as well.
Simmons had good performances turned in by Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) who was able to lead all scorers with 5 goals and 3 assists. Alexia Malone Oliver (Bristol, R.I.) was also able to score 5 goals and add 1 assist. Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) recorded 3 goals and 1 assist while teammates Kiera Kirkaldy (Middlebury, V.T.) and Ali Stonehouse (Dublin, N.H.) were each able to score 2 goals for the Sharks.
For their next contest, the Rivier Women's lacrosse team will be on the road to take on Saint Joseph (Conn.) on April 3rd, at 12:00pm. As for the Sharks, they will play host to Emmanuel College on April 4th at 12:00pm.
