Women's Lacrosse fall at home to Norwich 13-11

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team fell this evening to the visiting Norwich University Cadets by the score of 13-11. With the loss, the Raiders drop their season record to 4-9 (3-5 GNAC). As for the Cadets, they improve their season record to 5-5 (3-4 GNAC).

The game began with a 6-0 Norwich run. Two goals by Gina Conroy (Amherst, N.H.), two goals by Meaghan Albert (Lanesborough, Mass.) a goal by Chapel Guamieri (Pepperell, Mass.) and a final goal by Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) gave the Cadets a commanding 6-0 lead. Rivier would not go away so easily though.

Down 6-0, the Raiders, who needed to find themselves some offense in order to stay in the game, did just that by putting together an impressive 5-0 run before the end of the first half. Two goals by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.), two goals by Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) and a goal by Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) cut the Cadet lead to just one goal.

The second half began with a quick Rivier strike. Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) off of a free position shot, was able to bury an impressive shot to tie the game at 6-6. Norwich responded quickly with an unassisted goal by Hope Royce (Washington, V.T.) at the 25:08 mark. Rivier would respond back with goals by Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) at the 22:36 mark and the 19:26 mark. At this point, the Raiders held the 8-7 lead.

A man-up goal by Chapel Guarmieri (Pepperell, Mass.) at the 18:36 mark brought the game back to 8-8. Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) put the Raiders back on top when she was able to score an impressive free-position shot goal at the 17:38 mark. Unfortunately for the Raiders, Norwich would fire back with a 3-0 run of their own. A goal by Meaghan Albert (Lanesborough, Mass.) and two goals by Gina Conroy (Amherst, N.H.) gave the Cadets the 11-9 lead with only 11 minutes remaining.

Rivier cut the lead to just one goal when Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was able to score a man-up goal for the Raiders at the 8:36 mark. Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) was also able to chip in for the Raiders and score at the 3:31 mark. Unfortunately for Rivier, Chapel Guarmieri (Pepperell, Mass.) was able to score twice for the Cadets, to seal the 13-11 victory.

Rivier had good performances turned in by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who was able to lead the Raiders with an impressive 4 goals. Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) also played well for the Raiders as she was also able to record 4 goals in the game. Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) recorded 1 goal and 1 assist for the Raiders while teammate Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied 2 goals and 1 assist.

Norwich had good performances turned in by Gina Conroy (Amherst, N.H.) who was able to lead the Cadets with 4 goals. Chapel Guarmieri (Pepperell, Mass.) was also able to net 4 goals for the Cadets. Meaghan Albert (Lanesborough, Mass.) scored an additional 3 goals while Hope Royce (Washington, V.T.) and Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) were each able to tack on a goal each.

For their next contest, the Rivier Women's Lacrosse team will play on the road at Emmanuel College on April 15th at 7:00pm. As for the Cadets, they will next host Simmons College on April 15th at 3:00pm.
