(Thousand Oaks, CA) In the opening game of the 2011 Best Western Posada Royale Classic it was the Bowdoin College Polar Bears who were victorious as they defeated Rivier College, 90-66.
Bowdoin, 7-2 overall and who were receiving votes for the D3 Top 25, took the lead minutes into the game and never looked back as they held a 20 point lead at half.
Rivier senior Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) was the leading scorer for the Raiders, now 6-4 overall and 1-0 in GNAC play, as she had 18 points; all of which were three pointers. Younger sister Deanna Purcell (Fr./Hudson, NH) added 13 points while senior Chelsea Barker (Nashua, NH) chipped in with 11 points off the bench. Sophomore Jaclyn Penniman (Dudley, MA) continues to attack the glass as she pulled down a team high six rebounds.
Rivier will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on William Smith College in the final day of the Classic.
