Jays Shoot Way To Win Over Rivier

WEST HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 5, 2011 -- Freshman Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) scored 20 points and Saint Joseph College shot 50 percent from the floor as the Blue Jays defeated Rivier, 84-46 in a GNAC game Friday at the O'Connell Center.

Saint Joseph improved to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the GNAC. Rivier is 4-16 and 2-4.

Saint Joseph scored the first seven points, never trailed and led 19-9 after four and a half minutes. The Blue Jays led 46-24 at halftime and by as many as 40 in the closing minutes.

Mary Hyde (Derby, Conn.) scored 13 points for Saint Joseph and Nathalie Mastarreno (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Chelsea Alves (Ellington, Conn.) had 11 apiece. Shauna Sullivan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had a game-high 10 rebounds for Saint Joseph. The Blue Jays shot an even 50 percent from the floor (33-for-66) while holding Rivier (19-for-62) to 31 percent.

Sarah Howard (W. Greenwich, R.I.) scored 11 points for Rivier and Stacey Laine (Waterford, Verm.) had eight rebounds.

Saint Joseph plays at Johnson & Wales Tue. Feb. 8 and plays next at home, Thur. Feb. 10 against Saint Joseph's of Maine, at 6 p.m. Rivier hosts Norwich Tue. at 7 p.m.
