Eagles Bound Past Rivier, 74-62

Nashua, NH – Junior Vanessa Bosques notched a team high 22 points and fellow junior Alycia Gervais added her second straight double-double with 12 points and a game and career-high 18 rebounds guiding Daniel Webster past longtime intracity rival Rivier College, 74-62 Saturday afternoon at the Muldoon Center.

Junior Sarah Paternostro (Glastonbury, Conn.) added 13 points while senior Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) notched 10 as the Eagles (5-2), ended a four-game losing streak to the Raiders (1-8) dating back to 2006.

Amanda Purcell (Hudson, NH) led Rivier with a game high 28 points but Steph Adams (Nashua, NH) was the only other Raider to reach double figures with 10.

The Eagles dominated inside, finishing with a 58-30 advantage in rebounds including a 19-4 advantage on the offensive glass and came back from bad early play after the Raiders jumped out to opening leads of 10-0 and 14-4 over the first eight minutes.

DWC responded with an 11-2 run to close the gap to 16-15 and took what would turn out to be their first lead on a Bosques layup with 5:11 to go in the frame for a 19-18 lead ending with a 29-24 edge at the break.

The Eagles trailed 50-49 with 6:29 remaining but took the lead for good on a Regan jumper 10 seconds later and a Gervais jumper with 3:39 left made it 60-55, part of a game-clinching 8-0 run ending with a Kirsten Murphy (Woodstock, Vt.) jumper and a 64-55 lead with 2:53 left.

The Raiders fall to 1-8 on the season and are now off until the new year.  Rivier play next on January 2nd and 3rd at the Williams College Invitational.
