Peacock, Clark honored pre-game for Senior Day

(Nashua, New Hampshire) Rainy skies gave way to a beautiful afternoon up at Raider Diamond where the Rivier University Softball team honored their two seniors prior to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Double-Header with Saint Joseph's College.

Seniors Nicole Peacock (Warwick, Rhode Island) and Kirstie Clark (Brentwood, New Hampshire) were greeted by their parents and Head Coach Dave Morissette in a special pre-game ceremony at home plate.

The Raiders were defeated twice by the Monks by scores of 2-1 and 6-3 on the afternoon.

Game One: Saint Joseph's College 2, Rivier University 1 (Final)

Peacock gave the Raiders an early lead as she blasted a home run to deep left field but the Monks were able to tally single runs in the 4th and 6th to capture a game one victory, 2-1.

Peacock's third inning blast was her second of the season and her only hit in the day's first game (1-for-3). Classmate Clark also collected a hit as she went 1-for-3 and two time GNAC Rookie of the Week, freshman Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, NH) also went 1-for-3 to account for all three Raider hits in game one. Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) tossed a complete game allowing just two runs (both earned) on nine hits and striking out one without issuing a walk.

Game Two: Saint Joseph's College 6, Rivier University 3 (Final)

Trailing 4-0 the Raiders scored three times in the bottom of the fourth but Saint Joseph's was able to add two late runs to secure the twin-bill sweep 6-3.

Peacock went a perfect 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot in the Raider order and freshman Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) added a two run homer in the fourth for Rivier. Jordan finished the game going 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and Freitas added another hit and RBI to her first year as she went 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. Freshman Jessica Cote (Nashua, NH) also recorded a hit as she was 1-for-2. Sophomore Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) took the loss in the circle for Rivier as she pitched four innings giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits. Sammon pitched the final three innings allowing just one run on two hits.

Rivier will take on Suffolk University on Tuesday afternoon in their next scheduled double-header. The Raiders will return to Raider Diamond one last time on Wednesday night as they host Mount Ida College at 6pm.
