Softball finishes Spring Trip with two losses

(Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) The Rivier University Softball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon as they wrapped up their annual spring break trip to South Carolina.

Game One: Eureka College 4, Rivier University 3 (Final)

The Raiders plated two runs in the top half of the seventh to tie the game however Eureka was able to get the walk off winner in the 4-3 loss to begin the day for Rivier.

Freshman Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, NH) and Nicole Scotti (Concord, NH) each went 2-for-4 while classmate Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) scored twice in the Raiders' fifth loss of the season. Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) added a 1-for-4 day atop the order and sophomore Allyson Nolan (Wilmington, Conn.) also recorded a hit for Rivier.

Sophomore Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) took the tough luck loss in the circle as she tossed 6.1 innings of work allowing four runs – one earned – on 8 hits while striking out 3.

Game Two: Pennsylvania State University – Altoona 12, Rivier University 5 (Final)

The second game of the day was a bit of an ugly one for Rivier as the team committed seven errors in the 12-5 loss to Penn State Altoona.

Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) pitched 5.2 innings allowing just three earned runs – seven overall – on 8 hits and issuing two walks. Miller came in relief and recorded an out in the only batter she faced and senior Kirstie Clark (Brentwood, NH) tossed the final inning allowing 1 run on five hits.

Offensively for Rivier, Peacock was the table setter with a 2-for-3 day and a RBI. Both Freitas and Jordan each had RBI hits while Jordan finished with 2 RBI. Sophomore Lia Bobek (Hollis, NH) went a perfect 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and Nolan was the other Raider to register a hit as she went 1-for-3.

Rivier will return back to the Northeast and will be back on the diamond on March 20th when they host cross-town foe Daniel Webster College.
