
No. 18 Lasell Sweeps Men’s Volleyball
NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's volleyball team was swept by Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe and nationally-ranked No. 18 Lasell on Friday night at the Muldoon Center.
The Raiders lost by set scores of 22-25, 18-25, 13-25 to drop to 4-6 (1-3 GNAC) as the Lasers improved to 12-3 (3-0 GNAC).
After the Raiders jumped out to an 8-6 lead, Lasell countered with a 9-2 run capped off by a service ace to lead by five in the first set. Rivier chipped away at the deficit and used an ace and three straight kills to cut the gap to one at 18-17. The Raiders tied the score twice in the late going of the frame only for the visitors to close out the game with three consecutive points to gain a 1-0 lead.
The Raiders fell behind 12-6 in the second set only to score three-straight with kills from sophomore Tyler Dickinson and Cody Fitzpatrick in that span to force the Lasers into a timeout. Lasell put together a 7-4 run to lead it by seven and never turned back en route to taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Lasers hit .556 in the third and dropped in eight service aces to coast to its third GNAC victory of the campaign.
The Raiders finished with a team .212 hitting percentage as sophomore Justin Barish (12) and first-year Cade Barron (10) combined for 22 of the teams' 27 assists. Dickinson put together six kills at a .625 clip with four block assists in the loss.
Rivier is set to continue its seven-game homestand on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in a mid-week non-conference showdown against Nichols. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
