Men's Lacrosse: Larsen scores 100th career goal and leads Raiders to victory over the AMCATS, 7-6

(Paxton, Mass)  The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team earned a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening over Anna Maria College, 7-6 in Paxton, Massachusetts.  The win sends the Raiders to 4-1 in GNAC and an overall record of 5-6.  Anna Maria slides to 4-8 and 2-3 in league play. 

Junior Captain, Colby Larsen (Windham, NH) and his band of warriors fought tooth and nail for every goal today to prove to AMC they deserved the conference win tonight.  While Larsen led the charge today with 3 points, 3 other upper classmen contributed as well.  Senior Liam Ryan (Dorchester, Mass) scored 2 goals with the help of junior Eric Guinasso (Pelham, NH) and junior Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Mass).  Ryan also took 11 shots and scooped up 7 ground balls on the night.

Senior attacker Joe Kelland (Watertown, Mass) struck twice in the third quarter from a couple dishes by Colby Larsen and Rob Fullerton (Wilmington, Ma).

At the 1:26 mark in the last quarter the Raiders called a time out to pull themselves together to break the 6-6 tie.  Less than two minutes later, it was Sean Brady who decided to get on the board with just   :14 seconds left on the clock.  The assist for the goal was credited to junior Rob Fullerton (Wilmington, Mass) as he capped the night off with 3 assists.

While the Raiders were the victors tonight, rookie Jake Klemba (S. Windsor, CT) earned his stripes scoring 3 goals for the AMCATS after 6 shots on goal.  Junior Goalkeeper Paul Schwarz (Staten Island, NY) made 29 saves. 

Junior AJ Gearin (Lunenberg, Mass) wasn't messing around tonight as he stripped away the final faceoff of the match with just :14 seconds left in the game to secure possession for the win.

Junior Goalkeeper Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass) pulled out another 14 saves.  Bringing his total saves to 141.

While this victory was a team effort.  Colby Larsen stole the show with a beautiful behind the back shot that just happened to be his 100th goal of the his career. His goals tonight brings him 1 goal shy of being among the top 5 scorers in the GNAC.  

Both teams will be back in conference action when they return to the field on Saturday afternoon.  Rivier will host Johnson & Wales (4-9, 3-2 GNAC) on Raider field at 1PM and Anna Maria will travel to Boston, Mass to face Emmanuel College (1-9, 1-4 GNAC) at 3PM.
