Men's Lacrosse: Raiders tripped up at home by UMass-Boston

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest this afternoon to visiting UMass Boston, 14-10 at Raider Field.  The win sends the Raiders to a 1-5 overall record.  The Beacons slide to 4-3 in league play.

Junior Colby Larsen (Windham, NH) led the offensive effort for the Raiders as he totaled 3 goals and 1 assist on the afternoon.  While the junior captain currently leads the team in goals, he is tied with points earned with senior Liam Ryan (Dorchester, Ma) and freshman Dylan McSparren (Warwick, RI) at 16 points apiece.

The Beacons broke the ice at the 11:30 mark of the first quarter with 2 unassisted goals by freshman Joe Maurceri (Scitiuate, Ma). Rivier responded with three quick goals from Ryan, to hold the 3-2 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action.

The second quarter was dominated by the Raiders, highlighted by the first career goal by junior Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.). The goalie made a fantastic save in the net before starting his run down the field. Cloutman realized that he was left uncovered so he carried the ball the length of the field and riffled a shot pass UMass-Boston goaltender Nick Pasalugo (Barnstable, Mass.) for his first career points.

As the quarter went on the Beacons contributed 3 more goals to the action.  Sophomore Sam Matton (Sturbridge, Ma) netted a shot from freshman Joe Mauceri assist.  Seniors, Clay and Kroy Arnold (Syracuse, NY) both tallied a goal apiece from sophomore Josh Holmes (Weymouth, Ma) and Conor Lenfest (Waltham, Ma) assists.

The score was 7-5 in the Raiders favor.

The third quarter was back and forth as it finished at 10-8, still in the Raiders favor.

However, It was the 4th quarter when the Beacons began thier comeback.  The Arnold twins contributed 3 goals and freshman Dalton Ring (Holliston, Ma) contributed an unassisted goal.  The game finished 14-10 as the Beacons walk away with the victory.

Cloutman was active this afternoon as he faced 27 shots on goal and finished with 13 saves. While Passalugo finished the night contesting 23 shots on goal and saving 9 of them.

The Raiders (1-5) will be back in action at home Wednesday, March 27th at 7PM.  They will face Regis College (2-4) in both programs' first conference matchups of the season.  On the same night, the Beacons of UMass Boston will host Wheaton College (5-2) at 7:00PM in Boston, Ma.
