Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Doubled Up By Curry, 14-7

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team opened up the home portion of their 2018 schedule this morning as they hosted visiting Curry College in a non-conference contest at Raider Field. The Luck of the Irish wasn't on the Raiders side as Curry doubled up and took home the 14-7 victory. Rivier is now 0-4 on the season while the Colonels slide above .500 at 3-2 overall. 

 

The Raiders were first on the board after freshmen Dylan McSparren (Warwick, R.I.) nets his 5th goal of his career.  It wasn't long until Curry senior Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) went on a 3 goal scoring tangent to bring the game to 3-1.  However the experience of Raiders senior captain Colby Larsen (Windham, N.H.) scored the last goal of the period with an unassisted goal to finish the half at 3-2.

It was the second period where the Colonels started pulling away.  Sophomore Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt) netted a goal within the first minute off an assist from classmate Kyle Lussier (Topsham, ME).  Then Serra struck again with another unassisted goal. Three mintues later Colby responded again with a second goal of the game off an assist from junior Eric Guinasso (Pelham, N.H.). Senior Liam Ryan (Dorchester, Mass.) burried a goal five minutes later off another Guinasso assist as the two teams approached half time.

Also to get on the board for the first time this season was Curry's Kyle Lussier with his first goal of the season.  As for the Raiders, Colby Larsen, Eric Guinasso and junior Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Mass.) contributed 3 more goals on the day. 

Curry showcased 2 GK's for today's match.  Junior Josh Teller (Milford, CT) who made 6 saves before he was subbed out by freshman Jake Sangiovanni (Centerport, NY) in the 4th period.  The freshman made 3 saves and suffered 1 goal.

Rivier Junior Matt Cloutman (Peabody, MA) dealt with 37 shots on goal and saved 23.

Rivier University will return to action at home on Saturday, March 24th as they face UMass Boston (1-3) at 1:00PM. Curry College will host the University of Southern Maine (1-1) in Milton, Ma at 4:00PM on Tuesday, March 20th.
