Men's Lacrosse: Dylan McSparren named GNAC Rookie of the Week

(Winthrop, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced earlier today that Rivier University freshman Dylan McSparren (Warwick, R.I.) has been named the Conference's Rookie of the Week for Men's Lacrosse, presented by Corvias.

McSparren topped all point production on the week for the Raiders with 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in two games. The Warwick, R.I. native dished out five assists while also netting a hat trick vs. Becker in a Thursday game. McSparren added three points on Sat. by way of one goal and a pair of assists vs. UMass Boston. Overall, McSparren converted 33.3 percent of his shots into goals with 75 percent on target and scooped up five ground balls on the week.

McSparren was not the only one earning attention around the conference as both junior Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.) and senior Liam Ryan (Dorchester, Mass.) were added to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Cloutman carried a clear Coast-to-Coast to a Dip-n-Dunk top corner Goal Finish on Saturday in a home game vs UMass Boston. Cloutman's save total on the week was 21. In a Thursday contest vs. Becker, Cloutman had 8 saves in 38 minutes of work that lead to a 17-4 win. He also made 13 stops on Saturday in a home setback vs UMass Boston.

Ryan tallied a 10-point week netting 5 goals and assisting on five more. Ryan had a pair of goals to go along with five helpers on Thursday in a win vs. Becker. Ryan followed that up with a hat trick on Saturday against UMass Boston.

This is the first time that McSparren has been named to Rookie of the Week. Rivier will entertain Regis College on Wednesday night at Raider Field in their last home contest before Easter Break. Game time is set for 7pm.
