Men’s Basketball Falls at Saint Joseph’s (Me.)

STANDISH, Maine – The Rivier men's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's (Me.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday evening by a final score of 91-64.

The Raiders dropped to 10-11 (3-7 GNAC) while the Monks improved to 16-4 (8-1 GNAC).

After the Raiders found themselves down 13-6 early, graduate student Kyler Bosse knocked down a three-pointer to trim the deficit to four with 14:50 left in the first half. Saint Joseph's responded with a 20-10 run over the next seven minutes, extending their lead to 14 points at 33-19 with 7:23 remaining in the half. Back-to-back layups from graduate student Joey Merrill and first-year Steph Barnes helped the Raiders cut the lead back to single digits. Senior Odarius Cade added a three-pointer from the wing, pulling Rivier within five at 33-28 at the 4:06 mark. The Monks closed out the half with a 7-0 run, taking a 40-28 lead into the break.

Graduate student Ra'Quan Groves scored six of the Raiders first eight points of the second half to cut the Monks lead to 45-38 with 17:21 to play. The Monks regained their double-digit advantage and never relinquished it, closing the game on a 46-26 run.

The Raiders return to GNAC play on Saturday, Feb. 8 against Regis (Mass.) at the Muldoon Center. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
