Men's Basketball falls in season finale, 75-67 to Norwich

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Basketball team wrapped up their 2015-16 season this afternoon with a 75-67 loss to visiting Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders finish at 4-21 overall and a 4-14 conference mark while the Cadets stand at 7-18 overall and 4-14 in the GNAC.

Prior the start of the game, the Raiders honored their four seniors – Anthony Simmons (Stamford, Conn.), Lance Handy (Easton, Mass.), Edward Soucie (South Ryegate, Vt.) and captain Cullen Donovan (Wethersfield, Conn.) – who played in the final game of their respective careers.

Handy led the team with 14 points in a reserve effort while Soucie added 13 points in his final appearance. Donovan recorded 10 points and Simmons dished out five assists. Freshman Isaiah Ruffen (Haverhill, Mass.) pulled down a team high 10 rebounds and junior Kevin Francis (Cromwell, Conn.) chipped in 12 in the loss.

Norwich was paced by the sharp-shooting effort from Alex Preckol who netted 18 second half points (20 total) to lead the comeback. Ryan Booth contributed a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Ryan Fitzgerald added 12 points while Mike Hogervorst had 10 points and seven rebounds in the season ending victory.
