Men's Basketball bitten at the buzzer, fall to Suffolk 53-51

(Nashua, N.H.) For the second time in five conference games, the Rivier University Men's Basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss as time expired. Suffolk University sophomore Matt McLean (Miami, Fla.) hit a jump shot with 0:00 on the clock to give the Rams a 53-51 victory over the Raiders inside the Muldoon Gymnasium during a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest. The loss sends Rivier to 2-4 in league play and an overall mark of 2-11. Suffolk, meanwhile, earns their fourth win of the season (4-8) and their second conference victory (2-3 GNAC).

Senior Anthony Simmons (Stamford, Conn.) knocked down 7-of-13 for a game high of 17 points as he was the lone Raider to reach double-digits. Both junior Kevin Francis (Cromwell, Conn.) and senior Edward Soucie (South Ryegate, Vt.) pulled down eight rebounds.

McLean finished with eight points, including the two most import ones, in a reserve effort for the Rams. Senior Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) was the overall team leader in points with 13 and junior Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) added 10 and 6 rebounds in the win.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action when they return to the court. The Raiders will travel to Saint Joseph's College for a 7pm tip-off on Tuesday evening while Suffolk will be traveling to Norwich University on Wednesday night.
