Nelson's 29 points lead Rivier past Mount Ida

(Newton, MA) The Rivier College Raiders earned their first GNAC victory of the season as they defeated Mount Ida College, 66-57 this afternoon.

Sophomore Jake Nelson (Nashua, NH) was the main reason why the Raiders (3-9 overall, 1-4 GNAC) came out on top. He scored a career high 29 points - including hitting three 3-pointers and going 8-for-9 from the line.

Junior Cliff Celestin (Boston, MA) contributed 10 key points off the bench while sophomore Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) chipped in 7 for the Raiders. Junior Garon Whitney (Dover, NH) was the leading rebounder as he collected 7 boards, all off the bench.

Rivier outshot the Mustangs in every facet of the game. From the floor they held a 37.9% to Mount Ida's 32.7%. 

The Raiders will stay on the road for their next matchup which is on Monday, January 16th. They will make the trek up to Northfield, VT and take on the Cadets of Norwich University. Game time is slated for 7:30 pm.
