Amcats top Raiders in OT, 80-75

(Nashua, NH) In the first GNAC game of the season, it was the Anna Maria College Amcats who would prevail 80-75 in overtime against the Rivier College Raiders.

Anthony Click paced the Amcat offense as he had 29 points and 8 rebounds in the win. More importantly, Click shot an impressive 17-20 from the free throw line.

The Raiders (1-5, 0-1 GNAC) would take a 40-33 lead at halftime after a buzzer beating 3 pointer from senior Will Snider (Old Bridge, NJ).

The Amcats would answer back in the second stanza as they limited the Raider offense to shoot just 30% from the floor. Rivier had a slim two point lead with about 53 seconds left to play. However a couple of missed free throw opportunities, 0-4 from the line inside the final minute, allowed Click to knock down two free throws to force overtime.

Anna Maria (1-3, 1-0 GNAC) would not miss a single shot in the extra frame as they went on to victory by an 80-75 final.

For the Raiders, sophomore Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) and Snider were the leading scorers with 18 points each. Sophomore Jake Nelson (Nashua, NH) contributed with 13 points while junior Cliff Celestin (Boston, MA) added 8.

AMC received the 29 point performance from Click along with solid outings from Brad Peterson, 16 points, and Javier Bristol, who added 13 points. Peterson recorded the games only double-double as he pulled down 14 rebounds.

Next up for the Raiders will be a tough GNAC opponent in Albertus Magnus College. The Game will take place down in New Haven, CT on December 10th.
