Suffolk edges Rivier, 1-0

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team allowed a goal in the 50th minute which proved to be the game winner as the lost to Suffolk University, 1-0 in GNAC action here at Raider Field.

Junior goaltender Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, NH) stopped 8 of the 9 shots she faced as she played brilliantly in net.

It was Suffolk's Gabrielle Balestrier who netted an unassisted goal at the 50:41 mark to give the Rams their third win of 2012. Rivier now falls to 3-7-1 on the season and 1-5-1 in the conference.

The Raiders had their chances through out the game as they out shot Suffolk 24-15 in the game - including 12 shots on net. However they could not get one past Rams goalie Melissa Brouillette during the 90 minutes of play.

Both freshmen Susan O'Laughlin (Stoneham, MA) and Holly Slocum (Holden, MA) registered three shots on net to lead the team. Junior Mariah Payne (Concord, NH) and freshman Sahara Brown (Barnsted, NH) had two each.

The Raider Women's Soccer team will enjoy a full week off after playing a tough stretch in which they played a total of six games in twleve days. Rivier will travel to Saint Joseph College (CT) on Saturday, October 6th for a 1pm GNAC matchup before returning home on Columbus Day to host Emerson College.
