Raiders get tripped up in OT, fall to Johnson and Wales

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team got a late goal from junior Lauren Tamposi (Hollis, NH) but it was the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University who netted the game winner in overtime tonight up on the hill.

It was a scoreless game throughout the first half as the teams traded scoring opportunities but both goaltenders held their ground.

It was not until the 58th minute when JWU's Kayla Sypek's shot ricochet off a Rivier defender and landed in the back of the net.

Just 20 minutes later, Tamposi took a beautiful cross from freshman Susan O'Laughlin (Stoneham, MA) and headed it in for the tying goal.

As the clock struck into the 98th minute, Sypek redirected a pass from Cat Martin to lift Johnson and Wales to their 2nd win of 2012.

With the loss, the Raiders fall to 1-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in GNAC play. Junior Mariah Payne (Concord, NH) made 7 saves as she started in net for the first time this season. Cassie Collins earned the win in net as she stopped 10 of 11 shots.

Rivier will return to action this Saturday as the travel to Simmons College for a 1pm GNAC matchup. Johnson and Wales will take on Keene State next Tuesday night.
