Men's Volleyball is still streaking, 24 straight wins

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Men's Volleyball team coasted to a pair of 3-0 wins over visiting Albertus Magnus College and Emerson College in a GNAC Tri-Match hosted by the Raiders.

Rivier improves to 13-9 overall and 6-0 in conference. Albertus falls to 7-7 overall and 0-6 in the GNAC while Emerson College now sits at 9-10 and 3-4.

Game One: Rivier University 3 (25, 25, 25), Albertus Magnus College 0 (15, 17, 15)

Sophomore Matt Tutino (Manorville, NY) paced the Raider attack as he recorded a .692 hitting percentage and led the team with 9 kills. Tutino also collected two service aces and four total blocks. Junior Aaron Almario (Alhambria, CA) had 7 kills while both sophomores Shane Spellman (Norwich, CT) and Sam Kazlas (Allentown, PA) recorded six each. Freshman Mike Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) had a solid game along the service line as he collected two service aces and 35 assists. Freshman Keegan Moody (Cranston, RI) contributed 4 kills and a block solo in the win for Rivier.

Albetus received a solid effort from Chase Brinton who led the team with 8 kills and five digs. Carlos Torres added three kills and 11 assists while Glen Johnson also collected five digs. Johnson had 2 kills and both Chris Pfeffer (3 kills) and Justin Tharau (1 kills) were the other Falcons to record kills in the opening match. Douglas DeSousa finished with 6 assists in the game.

Game Two: Rivier University 3 (25, 25, 25), Emerson College 0 (16, 20, 22)

Freshman Kevin Baran-Maguire (Newport Beach, CA) led the charge for the Raiders, who now improve to 13-9 overall on the season and 6-0 in GNAC play. Baran-Maguire knocked down 8 kills and recorded a hitting percentage of .538. Right behind him with six kills of their own were sophomores Chris Markuson (Cupertino, CA) and Cam Phegley-Walker (Los Angeles, CA). Senior Steve Visentin (Cheshire, CT) added 24 assists and 4 service aces while junior defensive specialist Matt Bynon (Burnt Hills, NY) contributed with 7 digs. Junior Terence Matatall (Danville, NH) added 7 kills and 4 digs and sophomore Brendan Tutino (Manorville, NY) finished with a kill and 3 digs for the victorious Raiders.

Brendan McGonigle had 8 kills and Jackson Wiley recorded 7 kills to pace the Emerson offense. McGonigle also led the team with 22 assists and Alex Frapech had 11 digs. Frapech was solid from the service line as he hammered out 4 service aces (5 total kills).

With the two GNAC wins, the Raiders have now won their past 24 GNAC contests.

Rivier will enjoy two days off before they travel to Lasell College on Tuesday night for their next scheduled contest. The Raiders defeated the Lasers 3-0 earlier this season inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. Emerson will battle Lasell on March 21 for their next matchup. Albertus Magnus will welcome Wenworth Institute of Technology to New Haven, CT on Tuesday evening.
