Men's Soccer sends seniors out with a 1-0 win over Anna Maria

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team brought home their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory of the season this afternoon as they were able to shutout visiting Anna Maria College, 1-0 on Senior Day at Raider Field. The Raiders are now 2-11-1 overall on the season and finish with a 1-7-1 GNAC record. Anna Maria falls to 3-11-1 and 2-7-0 in league play.

With the win this afternoon, the Raiders effectively knocked the Amcats out of the 8th and final spot for the upcoming Conference Tournament.

Junior Kyle Gambeski (Londonderry, N.H.) scored the game's lone goal in the first half. A foul just outside the 18' gave the Raiders a free kick that they would capitalize on. Gambeski sent his shot low on the ground, underneath the leaping four man wall, and found the back of the net. It was Gambeski's second goal of the season and it came inside the 34th minute.

Senior Anthony Capozzi (Windham, N.H.) made eight saves in goal for his first shutout of the year. Anna Maria sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Thomberg (Wayland, Mass.) stopped three of four shots on net.

Prior to the start of the game, the Raiders honored their four seniors. Edward Soucie (South Ryegate, Vt.), Jeremy Ball (Swanzey, N.H.), Peter Juneau (Rochester, N.H.) and Capozzi all played in their final home game of their careers.

Rivier will finish the 2015 season on Wednesday evening when they travel into Boston, Mass. for a date with Emerson College. Game time is set for 6pm. Anna Maria will finish their season with a road contest at WPI on Tuesday afternoon.
