Men's Soccer blanked by Daniel Webster, 2-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team allowed two second half goals as they fell to cross-town foe Daniel Webster College, 2-0 in a home game for the Eagles played at Raider Field on Wednesday night.

The matchup, originally slated for 4:00 p.m. at Eagle Field, was moved due to field and weather conditions but the Eagles (7-3) looked right at home, streaking to their fifth straight victory and continued their series winning streak over the Raiders (1-6), topping their Nashua neighbor for the ninth straight season.

Gary Archambault (Auburn, N.H.) stopped 10 shots in the loss, while Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) turned away five for his fifth goose egg of the season and the 19th of his career. Hamilton also earned the 30th win of his career.

DWC controlled much of the tempo throughout, finishing with a 25-11 shots advantage (13-5 on goal) but the Raider defense helped hold DWC's offense in check over the opening 45 minutes despite an 11-6 shots advantage.

DWC finally broke through in the 54th as Alex Carvajal (Medellin, Columbia) sent a pass down the left side. Ian Hutchinson (Litchfield, N.H.), playing in his 50th game for the Eagles, gave chase heading deep and tight outside the left post and made a sliding kick forward at a sharp angle that beat Archambault to the opposite top right corner for his second of the season and eighth of his career.

The score remained 1-0 until the 63rd. Chasen Congreves (Essex Junction, Vt.) drew a foul and set up for a long feed from about 40 yards sending a straight spiral into the center of the box where it was misdirected off the head of a Raider defender, popping backwards past Archambault for an own goal.

Rivier returns to GNAC play on Saturday visiting Mount Ida at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles also return their attention to conference play, hosting Becker on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
