Men's Soccer blanks Pine Manor, 4-0 in season opener

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team opened their 2015 season this evening with a convincing 4-0 victory over visiting Pine Manor College up on Raider Field.

Junior Michael Russo netted a goal and assisted on the other three while classmate Gary Archambault (Auburn. N.H.) stopped all nine shots he faced in the team's first win.

Russo began the season with an unassisted goal in the 17th minute that was able to sneak past Pine Manor goalkeeper Oscar Estrada. Fifteen minutes later, Russo would strike again. This is time he sent a pass to senior Anthony Capozzi (Windham, N.H.) who converted it for his first goal of the year and gave Rivier a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later the Russo-to-Capozzi connection struck again as the Raiders took a commanding 3-0 halftime lead.

Sophomore Harley Kearney (Pelham, N.H.) scored the lone second half goal to account for all of the Raiders' scoring.

Rivier Men's Soccer will have some time to recover and prepare for their next contest which will be on September 9th at Trinity College in Connecticut.
