Raiders fall on the road at Becker, 19-4

Leicester, Mass. --- Joe Ignagni (Kingston, Mass.) tallied six goals to lead the Becker Hawks to a 19-4 win over the visiting Raiders of Rivier on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. After starting the season at 0-5, Becker now has a two-game winning streak with a 2-6 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the GNAC standings. Rivier falls to 4-2 with a 1-1 mark in conference.

The Hawks jumped out to an 8-0 lead on the Raiders in the first quarter, dominating every area of the game. Ignagi scored the first and last goal on the day for Becker, adding two assists to finish with eight points total. John DeAngelis (Swampscott, Mass.) and Jeff Petersen (Syracuse, N.Y.) each contributed three goals and an assist. Petersen's goal with 9:45 left in the opening period proved the eventual game-winner. James Conley (Barnstable, Mass.) added a pair of goals and an assist.

Four Hawks came off the bench to score goals, with Stephen Elliott (Windsor, Conn.), Matt Matson (Worcester, Mass.), Kevin Coyne (Palo Heights, Ill.) and Alex Rossman (Newington, Conn.) each finding the back of the net. Josh Smith (Lewes, Del.) racked up eight saves in goal for the home team, not allowing a goal by Rivier until the fourth quarter. Michael Whalen (Warwick, R.I.) dominated in face-offs for Becker, controlling 20 of 25 opportunities and totaling 12 ground balls.

Danny Hooper (Wakefield, R.I.) got the Raiders on the board with a man up goal in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Shawn Donovan (Tewksbury, Mass.), Jeff Kelly (Westborough, Mass.) and Ryan Woolaver (Tewksbury, Mass.) each followed up on Hooper's score. Chris Benoit (Blackstone, Mass.) finished with 14 saves in goal.

Becker will look to extend their winning streak to three games on Saturday, when they travel to Saint Joseph's of Maine on Saturday to challenge the Monks. Game time is at 12:30pm. Rivier journeys to Mount Ida on Saturday for a 1:00pm contest against the Mustangs.
